Declaration of Compliance with Mixed Sex Accommodation
Every patient has the right to receive high-quality care that is safe, effective and respects their privacy and dignity. We are pleased that Clevedon Community Hospital is fully compliant with the Government’s requirements in relation to eliminating mixed sex accommodation, except when it is in the patient’s overall best interest, or reflects their personal choice.
We have the necessary facilities, resources and culture to ensure that patients who are admitted to Clevedon Community Hospital will only share the room where they sleep with members of the same sex, and same sex toilets and bathrooms will be available close to their bedded area.
Sharing with members of the opposite sex will only happen in the following exceptional circumstances:
- It is clinically necessary: for example where patients need a ‘safe haven’ bed to prevent admission to an acute hospital. Whilst this is highly improbable, we would not turn away patients in need of our services, but instead make special arrangements for interim provision
- Patients actively choosing to share: for instance a mixed sex couple wishing to share a double room.
If our care should fall short of the required standard, we will report it as part of our monthly reporting to the North Somerset Clinical Commissioning Group. We will also set up an audit mechanism to ensure that we do not mis-report.
We will publish the results of our audits as part of the Clevedon Community Hospital audit plan which is part of our overarching audit programme.
